The husband of a BJP women’s wing official sustained serious injuries after he was chased by a gang and then publicly attacked and stabbed multiple times on a street in Chennai on Friday.

The attack, which according to initial investigations was based on personal enmity, was captured on CCTV footage showing Srinivasan, the husband of BJP functionary Nadhiya, being chased by a four-member gang on a street in Anna Nagar.

Srinivasan is overpowered by the men, who then attack him. During the attack, a man can be seen repeatedly stabbing the victim with a sharp weapon, believed to be a sickle, while onlookers watch the horror, as captured on CCTV.

Moments later, an autorickshaw arrives at the scene. The attackers rush towards it, get in and flee the scene. Srinivasan is seriously injured. The victim has been admitted to a private hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Several bystanders filmed the attempted murder and the gang’s escape in an autorickshaw and these videos went viral.

The Nolambur police took note of the videos circulating online and identified the attackers as Prashant, Prakash, Srinivasan, Saravanan, Rajesh and Ganesan, who then surrendered. Charges of attempt to murder have been filed against them.

Initial investigations suggested that the incident was the result of a personal feud related to a murder in which Srinivasan was allegedly involved several years ago.

Meanwhile, there was a twist in the case: two more men from Sowcarpet tried to surrender to the police and take the blame for the incident. However, the police found that it was an attempt to mislead the investigation.
