Major fire at equestrian center in Logan County is being investigated by the Division of State Fire Marshal

The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal’s Bureau of Fire and Explosion Investigation continues to investigate a significant fire incident that occurred on Saturday, June 8, at 8755 State Route 638 in Belle Center, Logan County, resulting in the deaths of approximately 44 horses.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a building engulfed in flames, requiring the deployment of numerous emergency agencies. The building in question, a 60,000-square-foot agricultural building, was used as an equestrian training center.

At the time of the fire, there were numerous civilians and between 40 and 50 horses in the stable. Fortunately, all civilians were able to leave the building safely, although one person had to be treated for burns and transported. While some horses were saved, about 44 horses died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing. State Fire Marshal investigators continue to work with local authorities and other agencies.
