Deadly shooting leaves one dead and 24 injured in Ohio

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a shooting occurred on a street in Akron, Ohio, leaving one person dead and 24 others injured.

Shortly after midnight, police received reports of gunfire and it was reported that several victims had been hit by the gunfire. Shortly thereafter, local hospitals notified emergency dispatchers that people with gunshot wounds were being admitted to the emergency room.

According to Captain Michael Miller, Akron Police spokesman, there were 25 total casualties, including the dead. Miller gave an update Sunday afternoon, saying at least two of the injured were in critical condition, while the injuries of the others were not considered life-threatening.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting so far. Police have said the investigation is still in its early stages and have asked anyone with information to contact investigators working on the case. Witnesses at the scene told WEWS-TV that “hundreds of people were having a good time, all wearing white T-shirts and ‘women dancing on top of vehicles'” before the shots were fired.

The broadcaster also reported that officers discovered numerous cartridge cases and a firearm at the crime scene.
