MLB Trade Deadline: Outfielder Jorge Soler returned to Braves in trade with Giants

The Atlanta Braves pulled off a surprise trade deadline move Monday night by finalizing a deal to acquire former All-Star outfielder and World Series MVP Jorge Soler from the San Francisco Giants, sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports’ Russell Dorsey.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that the Braves are also acquiring pitcher Luke Jackson from the Giants.

The Braves later confirmed the trade with the Giants, who received left-handed pitcher Tyler Matzek and minor league infielder Sabin Ceballos in the deal.

Atlanta had previously acquired Soler in a trade with the Kansas City Royals in 2021. He started 55 regular-season games for the Braves that season and then helped them win the World Series championship. In the World Series, he hit three home runs and drove in three RBIs as Atlanta beat the Houston Astros and Soler was named World Series MVP. Jackson was also a member of that World Series team.

Almost exactly three years later, Soler and Jackson re-join the Braves as they look to hold off the rest of the National League wild-card contenders and make another run at the playoffs.
