3 Issues That Could Keep the Houston Texans From Making the Super Bowl

The Houston Texans have a good chance of making the playoffs this season. The Super Bowl is a very possible goal for them, after all, they are a very well-staffed team. They have Pro Bowlers and even All-Pro players scattered throughout their roster. Especially at key positions. The heights this team can reach are vast, but that doesn’t mean they are perfect.

The team may have some glaring issues holding it back. This isn’t unique to them, as every one of the 32 NFL teams has holes in their roster to some degree. It’s part of the game. Every team has to make up for what they lack season after season. For the 2024 Texans, it’s no different.

But what are the club’s issues that could prevent it from making a Super Bowl run? Well, as we head into training camp season, here are the three concerns I have for this club to succeed.

Chemistry

This specifically concerns Stefon Diggs and the rest of the offense. If Diggs comes in and meshes well with CJ Stroud, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Dalton Schultz, then everything is fine. The offense will likely run like a well-oiled machine and Diggs will be able to prove that he can be part of a unit. If he doesn’t and starts acting like he did with the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings in Houston, then this offense could fizzle out pretty quickly.

Interior line game

That goes to the guards and center on the offense and the two defensive tackles on the defense. Those are two areas of the team that haven’t been addressed much this offseason, despite the need to retool both. The defensive tackles will have two new names, but neither gives us much confidence that they’ll be true run stoppers. While the offense is stacked with young players that the team wants to try to improve, that doesn’t mean the offense will be good, but it doesn’t mean it’ll be bad either. It’s the unknown that gets them included. There’s potential here, but untapped potential only gets you fired.

A compromised secondary

There is a chance that the defensive secondary will be truly excellent this year. The Texans have shuffled positions and improved the talent around them. However, talent can depreciate between seasons. Additionally, some of the names the club has brought in are fringe players who could be starters. They could be starters or they could fall apart. With so much change, you can never really predict how a unit will perform. This preseason area of ​​concern will likely end up becoming a strength by midseason. Time will tell.
