A Barbie-themed pop-up restaurant is coming to Houston

After the release of the blockbuster barbie, the “Barbiecore” aesthetic hit Houston hard. Local restaurants were decked out in pink, with dazzling dishes and bright pink-hued drinks. Now, Houston will have a cafe dedicated solely to the iconic doll and movie.

With successful runs in New York, Chicago, Miami and Minnesota’s Mall of America, Mattel, the global toy and entertainment company that owns the Barbie brand, and media experiences company and platform Bucket Listers will launch the Malibu Barbie Cafe in Houston.

From August 16 through mid-October, diners can visit Junction HTX on Washington Avenue to experience a family-friendly Barbie world that channels Malibu Beach in the 1970s (the period when Malibu Barbie was first catapulted into the world). Chef Finalist and chef Becky Brown is set to develop the fast-casual menu, which will feature casual fare and all-day brunch with rainbow pancakes, gooey grilled cheeses, cute chia seed parfaits and pink dips, as well as desserts and drinks.

In between bites, guests can head to the Barbie Roller Skating Rink, which will feature a host of its own interactive activities for skaters. Proceeds from the $1 skate rental will be donated to Girls Inc., a non-profit organization that supports and provides safe spaces for young girls. The cafe will also offer special events during its tenure in Houston, including cupcake decorating classes, paint parties and skate parties for those 21 and over.

Tickets ($25) will be available on the Bucket Listers app and website for $25 and will include a food and merchandise credit. Diners can join the Bucket Listers waitlist to be notified when tickets go on sale.
