Original KPRC 2 News documentary chronicling the Houston ISD takeover

HOUSTON – TAKEOVER is a KPRC 2 News original documentary chronicling a year of change in the Houston Independent School District under the leadership of Superintendent Mike Miles and the New Education System (NES).

Produced by KPRC 2 anchor Candace Burns, photojournalist Wladimir Moquete and digital content specialist Ninfa Saavedra, the film tells the story of state control through the eyes of Fleming students, parents and teachers Middle School, where our team had exclusive access to classrooms during the 2023-2024 school year.

The exclusive screening took place at the historic DeLUXE Theater in the Fifth Ward community and featured some of the film’s stars, including Fleming Middle School principal Devin Adams, math teacher Lyndsy Mason and honor student DeArthur Edwards and his mother. After the screening, the documentary’s stars and producers had the opportunity to dine with several KPRC 2 Insiders, allowing them to discuss the documentary and NES/HISD with guests.
