One person arrested after Hobbs double murder

HOBBS, New Mexico (KMID/KPEJ) – A Hobbs man was arrested Thursday following an extensive investigation into the deaths of two Hobbs men.

According to HPD, officers responded to an incident in the 600 block of North McKinley around 11:16 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

Upon arrival, officers found two men, 54-year-old David Castillo and 52-year-old Felipe Castillo, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services responded, but both individuals succumbed to their injuries.

After an eight-day investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for 34-year-old David Rodriguez-Baeza, known as “Paps,” of Hobbs.

On Thursday, May 23, police and detectives located and arrested Rodriguez-Baeza without incident. Rodriguez-Baeza was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

“This arrest was preceded by many hours of intensive investigation and excellent cooperation between HPD patrol officers, detectives and civilian support personnel. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated and dedicated officers and sergeants.
