Vince McMahon finally speaks about the alleged rape of a WWE referee in new Netflix documentary

Vince McMahon has addressed the alleged rape of WWE referee Rita Chatterton in the new Netflix documentary Mr McMahon.

Chatterton accused McMahon of raping her in 1986 after she had served as the company’s first female referee since 1984.

In 1992 she spoke publicly about this issue.

She claimed that the co-founder and former chairman of WWE sexually assaulted her and forced her to perform oral sex on him.

They only made their allegations after the statute of limitations had expired.

The statute of limitations is the period of time within which a victim must come forward in order to press charges. It varies from state to state in the USA.

In this case, the process meant that no criminal charges could be brought against McMahon.

McMahon has consistently denied Chatterton’s allegations, despite reaching a multi-million dollar settlement with her in early 2023.

McMahon’s lawyers said this was done to “avoid the costs of litigation” and again denied the allegations.

Although he has previously made statements through his attorney, this is a rare comment from McMahon on the allegations against him.

Regarding the allegations, McMahon said:

“When you are accused of this and that, there is a flood of statements, you are this, you are that.

“One of the things was an alleged rape that never happened.”

The Netflix documentary then showed an excerpt from a 1986 interview with Chatterton in which she described being “forced to perform oral sex” by McMahon.

She said: “When I couldn’t fulfill his wishes, he got really angry with me and started ripping my jeans off.

“He pulled me over and told me again that if I wanted a half-million-dollar-a-year contract, I had to satisfy him, and if I didn’t, I would be blacklisted.

“My wrist was all black and blue, he didn’t stop.”

McMahon continued, “If you’re accused of rape, you’re a rapist. But it was consensual and if it was actually rape, the statute of limitations would have run out. I mean, that’s all the kind of nonsense that people dig up and try to find out about you.”

Chatterton’s allegation resurfaced earlier this year as part of a subpoena from federal agents investigating possible illegal bribery payments by McMahon.

This followed a lawsuit filed by Janel Grant against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinitis, who worked as an executive at WWE.

In her lawsuit, she claims the couple sexually harassed her and engaged in sex trafficking.

Both have denied the allegations.

McMahon was critical of the documentary Mr McMahon, in which he took part, and described it as “misleading”.

The miniseries released today traces his life and history and also addresses the various allegations and scandals in which McMahon was involved.
