Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu Vice President Narayanan Thirupathy has strongly condemned the recent attack and death threat against 12-year-old boy Akhilesh in Tirunelveli. The boy, a resident of Thiyagraja Nagar, was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants who cut his sacred thread and threatened him not to wear it in future.

In a post on social media platform X, Thirupathy urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to take immediate action. “It is the duty and responsibility of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who claims ‘I am the Chief Minister for all’, to order the arrest of those evil forces who cut the sacred thread and attacked the small child and ensure justice,” he said.

Expressing outrage over the incident, Thirupathy added, “I strongly condemn the attack and death threat against 12-year-old boy ‘Akilesh’ in Thiyagraja Nagar, Tirunelveli. The hooligans attacked him and cut the holy band he was wearing. He was also threatened that he would not be allowed to wear the holy band in future. Wearing a holy band is not just a declaration of faith but a means of worship through which one prays not only for one’s own welfare but also for the welfare of one’s family and the society at large.”

In his statement, Thirupathy also stressed that wearing a sacred thread is not restricted to Brahmins, disproving a common misconception. “For the last 75 years, some evil forces like the Justice Party and Dravidar Kazhagam & the DMK have created an impression that only Brahmins wear the sacred thread. However, most communities like Chettiars, Ayravaisiyas, goldsmiths, carpenters and sculptors have rituals of wearing and changing their sacred thread as a duty and a matter of faith during important changes in their lives.”

He also criticised those behind the attack, saying, “Cutting a sacred thread of a human being is the height of stupidity, just like the imperialist British who have created the illusion that Brahmin society has subjugated other societies and therefore these fools want to destroy this society. They are the same pseudo-secularists and politicians who claim that there is no caste but are involved in conspiracies to grab political power on the basis of caste. They are the ones who are instigating the cutting of the religious symbol of the sacred thread by claiming that all those who wear it are Brahmins.”
