New QB Caleb Williams Named Chicago Bears Captain (Video)

Quarterback Caleb Williams is off to a strong start to his rookie season with the Chicago Bears. After just four months with the team, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick has earned the respect of his Chicago teammates and been voted one of the Bears’ captains.

The Bears announced Monday that Williams was one of eight captains selected. Along with starting quarterback, receiver DJ Moore and tight ends Cole Kmet and Marcedes Lewis will represent the team on offense, while linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and TJ Edwards, safety Kevin Byard and cornerback Jaylon Johnson will serve as defensive captains.

Other notable quarterbacks, such as Joe Burrow, were elected captains and started as rookies.

Last season, Bryce Young and CJ Stroud, the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the 2023 draft, were both named captains of the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, respectively, in their rookie seasons. Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick, was also named a captain as a rookie with the Indianapolis Colts.

As the first week of the NFL season quickly approaches, more teams are starting to announce their captains. The Colts and Philadelphia Eagles unveiled their captains late last week; other teams are expected to follow suit shortly.
