Former FBI agent sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 11-year-old girl

A former FBI agent was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for the rape of an 11-year-old girl.

On Thursday, the Associated Press (AP) reported that Christopher Bauer, a former FBI agent, was sentenced to the conviction following a trial in Alabama. Bauer previously served as a trooper for the Alabama State Police and was charged with the crime while on duty as an Alabama State Police trooper.

In June, a jury found Bauer guilty of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 and first-degree sodomy.

The AP had already investigated the incident and found that Bauer had been fired from the FBI because he was accused of raping one of his colleagues “at knifepoint.”

According to AP, Bauer, 45, managed to create a fake letter proving that he was “eligible for re-employment” after his dismissal from the FBI, which earned him a job with the Alabama State Police.

“No matter what I say, no one wants to believe in my innocence,” Bauer told the judge this week, the AP reported. “One accusation was enough to deny me everything.”

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl D. Bailey said Bauer must be “off our streets forever” and called him a “sexual predator,” the AP reported.

The girl’s mother also called Bauer a “monster” and told the judge that he had used his badge to show “the image of a good person.”

“He made a fool of everyone,” said the girl’s mother.

Although Bauer denied this, Montgomery Circuit Court Judge Jimmy Pool said he believed “every single word” of the victim’s testimony when he sentenced her to life in prison.

According to AP, Bauer’s lawyers argued against a life sentence and pointed to an abusive childhood.

“Several incidents remain in Mr. Bauer’s memory, including the time he was pushed from the third floor of a building and another when he was left in a burning apartment,” Bauer’s lawyers wrote in a court document.

Bauer was arrested in 2021 and faces similar charges related to child sexual abuse in Louisiana.

During the trial, Bauer took the stand to defend himself. During his testimony, Bauer was asked if he had sodomized or abused the child, to which he denied it, saying, “No, never.”

“If she said I did something to her, that’s a lie,” he said during the trial, according to AP.
