According to an incident report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, officers received a call about a car crash on Remington Drive. When the first officer arrived, he saw a wrecked vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, and two occupants of the vehicle attempting to flee into the woods, according to the report. One of the occupants, a 16-year-old juvenile, was arrested. However, the other occupant, 18-year-old Jaylon Malik Franklin of Douglas, the suspected driver of the Tahoe, was able to escape – but only temporarily.

According to the report, there were four people in the vehicle. Two of the occupants escaped and were taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. An officer went to CRMC to speak with them. One of the occupants suffered a broken arm, while the other suffered cuts and bruises.

While other officers were on scene waiting for a tow truck, they noticed Franklin loitering at the edge of the woods. Officers approached Franklin, who again ran away. Eventually, one of the officers caught Franklin and arrested him. He was charged with drunk driving, hit and run, driving without a license, obstructing a roadway, speeding, and failure to maintain lane. He was detained and later released.
