Temple in Jammu vandalized, perpetrators arrested | News from India

JAMMU: A temple in a village on the outskirts of Jammu was reportedly vandalised, triggering protests by locals, police said on Sunday. The culprit was caught within hours of the incident. This was the second such incident in the Jammu region in the past week.

According to official sources, some unknown assailants vandalised the place of worship in the Narain Khoo district of Nagrota near Jammu late on Saturday evening.

The locals protested and demanded tough action against the perpetrators.

“The Jammu & Kashmir Police in Jammu district successfully solved a case of vandalism and arson at a religious site that took place in Nagrota last night. The investigation led to the identification and arrest of the culprit responsible for the act,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Previously, on June 30, a vandalized place of worship was found in a village in the Reasi district. In connection with the incident, more than 43 suspects were arrested and interrogated by the police.

Devender Singh Rana, senior BJP politician and former MP from Nagrota constituency, praised the district administration for taking the incident seriously and taking prompt action to bring the perpetrator to book.

“Such incidents are a cause for concern and cannot be tolerated. This conspiracy must be exposed,” he said.

He appealed to the population to remain calm and said the government had promised to take tough action against the perpetrators.
