Uttar Pradesh: Government suspends six officials after road collapses and floods on Ram Path

Ayodhya: The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended six municipal officials for gross negligence following road collapse and water logging on several stretches of the newly constructed Ram Path in Ayodhya. Around 15 service roads and streets along the Ram Path were flooded following rains on June 23 and 25. Even houses along the road were submerged.

In addition, parts of the 14-kilometer-long stretch of road collapsed in more than a dozen places.

The suspended officials are Dhruv Aggarwal (superintendent engineer), Anuj Deshwal (assistant engineer) and Prabhat Pandey (junior engineer) of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Anand Kumar Dubey (superintendent engineer), Rajendra Kumar Yadav (assistant engineer) and Mohammad Shahid (junior engineer) of the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam.

Aggarwal and Deshwal were suspended on Friday following an order by special secretary Vinod Kumar. Pandey’s suspension order was issued by PWD chief engineer (development) VK Srivastav.

Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam Managing Director Rakesh Kumar Mishra ordered the suspension of the three engineers.

The state government has also issued a notice to Ahmedabad-based contractor Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited in this regard.

The PWD order said that the top layer of the Ram Path was damaged soon after its construction, which shows that the work, which was a top priority for the Uttar Pradesh government, was being neglected and is damaging the image of the state among the people.

A further investigation is underway, said PWD director Ajay Chauhan.
