NHL head coach takes low blow against Buffalo Bills ahead of Stanley Cup

There may be a few more Florida Panthers fans in Western New York after Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch attempted a cheap shot against the Florida Bills. Buffalo, Tuesday.

During a media availability, Knoblauch was asked if the Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup experience gave them an advantage over the Oilers heading into Game 1. The Panthers made it to last year’s Stanley Cup Final against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, but lost four games to one.

In answer to the question, the Bills ended up catching a coaching error.

“Yes, the experience is good,” Knoblauch noted. “I don’t know how beneficial the experience is. You can ask the Buffalo Bills how important the Super Bowl experience is.

Ouch.

Knoblauch, of course, was referring to the Bills teams that went to four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s but failed to win any of the games. While Knoblauch is right that experience isn’t everything, it appears Buffalo took an unnecessary low blow from the Oilers head coach.

In addition to Knoblauch’s low blow, Buffalo fans may end up turning to the Panthers, as the team features many former Sabres. Sam Reinhart and Kyle Okposo are the most recognizable names among the former Sabers on the Panthers roster, but they’re not alone. Evan Rodrigues, Brandon Montour and Rasmus Asplund are also former members of the Sabres.

The Stanley Cup Final begins on Saturday, June 8.
