Buffalo Bills: Wide Receiver Named Biggest Problem in 2024

As the Buffalo Bills prepare for the 2024 season, ESPN recently declared their biggest weakness heading into the season.

It was once again a tough end to the season for the Buffalo Bills. Despite having the home field this time against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Chiefs once again came out on top in the playoffs. Buffalo has been a great team year in and year out, but they just can’t get over the hump.

With a great quarterback in Josh Allen, Buffalo will always be in the running as a contender. However, Allen is starting to make a lot of money and that is going to impact the rest of the roster. We saw that happen this offseason, when the team opted to trade Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans after a few great years in Buffalo.

While Buffalo may still be a very good team, the 2024 version has some holes it seems. Recently, ESPN named the wide receiver position as Buffalo’s biggest weakness heading into 2024. Here’s what they had to say.

Roster Hole: Wide Receiver

We can have some interesting arguments about Keon Coleman, who the Bills took first in the second round. My friend Mike Tanier pointed out that Coleman’s film is filled with him making almost a lot of highlight-reel catches in 2023: tracking the ball well but lacking top speed and knocking it down or not catching the ball cleanly. Coleman’s Playmaker score was pretty typical for a second-round receiver.

Considering wide receiver was a problem for the Buffalo Bills last season with Diggs, the situation certainly didn’t improve this offseason after trading him. Diggs is a difficult talent to replace and it probably won’t happen overnight.

That being said, Allen will have to do his best to try and elevate some of his young receivers. Great quarterbacks are capable of making everyone around them better, and the Bills will ask that of Allen this season.

As the offseason progresses, the Buffalo Bills would be wise to try and find some veteran receivers to help bolster the depth chart.
