Fatal fire in Marlborough is under investigation

MARLBOROUGH – A house fire on Nolan Way this morning left one resident dead, said Marlborough Fire Chief Kevin J. Breen, Marlborough Police Chief David Giorgi, State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine and Middlesex County District Attorney Marian T. Ryan.

β€œOn behalf of the Marlborough Fire Department, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one this morning,” said Chief Breen.

Marlborough Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 8:23 a.m. to 66 Nolan Way. They arrived within three minutes to find the single-family home already engulfed in flames, with fire coming from the rear left corner.

Firefighters immediately entered the building to fight the fire and search for residents. They found a dead adult in the building; the chief medical examiner’s office will determine the person’s cause and manner of death. Most of the fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes and brought under control within half an hour. Another resident had to leave his home.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Marlborough Fire Department, Marlborough Police, State Police Fire Inspectors assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and State Police assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Fire Department’s Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.

Based on witness statements and an examination of the crime scene, investigators believe the fire started in the living room on the first floor. The exact cause is still under investigation.

Hudson and Southborough fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene. The Northborough Fire Department attended the scene.
