First look at key position battles for Buffalo Bills ahead of OTAs

In my opinion, the safety position is pretty much decided as Sean McDermott will want the veterans to start the year at safety replacing Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Considering the Bills start the season against strong passing games like the Dolphins, Jaguars, Ravens and Texans, it could be difficult for a rookie to establish himself.

However, that said, Cole Bishop was a top pick and certainly has the physical ability to step in immediately as the starting safety. This is one of those positions that the coaching staff will give Bishop every chance to get that starting job.

If the three safeties were to be ranked based on their chances of starting, Taylor Rapp would likely be the favorite. He has a year of experience on this defense and knows better than the other two the playbook that would leave room for a battle between Edwards and Bishop. Mike Edwards has plenty of experience, especially in the playoffs, from his time with the Bucs and Chiefs, which should help him in this position battle.
