Weather damage in Houston: Xfinity, Verizon and AT&T among those working to restore internet services due to outages caused by powerful storm

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Widespread power outages across Southeast Texas are also causing connectivity issues and internet service interruptions.

Here’s how providers handle this.

Comcast/Xfinity

We hope you and your loved ones remain safe following the recent severe weather that has affected our city. The Greater Houston area continues to experience widespread power outages causing temporary interruptions in internet service.

Please note the following:

  • Without electricity, customers will not have access to the Internet since modems require electricity.
  • Customers with electricity may still experience internet service outages due to downed telecommunications lines in the area. Our teams are working on the ground to assess the damage and carry out repairs safely.

As a result, Comcast said it has opened all operational Xfinity WiFi hotspots in the Houston area to all residents free of charge.

You can check the hotspot closest to you by entering your postcode and zooming in to your street level. You can also follow alerts from Comcast.

Some Xfinity stores were affected by outages.

  • Cypress – 15055 Fairfield Meadows Drive.
  • North-West – 13752 North-West Highway
  • Heights – 1901 Taylor Street
  • West Lake Wallisville – 15375 Wallisville Road.
  • Copperfield – 8546 Highway 6 North.

HAS&T

HAS&T said some of its customers may also experience interruptions in wireless and wireline services, primarily due to power outages.

We are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore service as our network teams have begun to do their initial assessment of the impact. We understand how important it is to stay connected and continue working until all services are restored.

Customers experiencing problems with their ATThe &T department can reach them online at att.com, on myAT&T or by phone 24/7 at 800.288.2020.

Wireline customers can also visit att.com/outages to sign up for unique service restoration text alerts for Internet and TV.

Verizon

Due to last night’s severe storms and resulting power outages, some customers in the Greater Houston area may experience service interruptions. Verizon is using all available resources to fully restore service.
