ATLANTA, GA — Metro Atlanta is the place to be in summer, according to WalletHub’s latest rankings released Tuesday.

The metro claimed the top spot for the best summer travel destinations 2024, ahead of favorite tourist destinations such as Orlando, Florida, and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Personal finance website WalletHub has released a list of 100 U.S. destinations likely to travel in summer, based on travel costs and hassles, local costs, attractions, weather, activities and safety.

“When choosing a summer travel destination, it’s easy to focus only on the types of activities you want to do or certain cities you’ve always wanted to see,” WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe said. in the report.

“However, choosing a destination that is not only fun but also affordable is important when the costs of travel, restaurants and activities have increased so much in recent years. It can also allow you to have a longer, more relaxing trip.”

Ultimately, the experts chose the Atlanta metro area to reign supreme.

Here are the rankings for metro Atlanta:

  • Total score: 66.77
  • Travel costs and hassles: 7
  • Local costs: 38
  • Attractions: 16
  • Weather: 15
  • Activities: 7
  • Security: 29

“Metro Atlanta is the best summer travel destination, in part because the cheapest flights from major cities require no connections and can cost as little as $278,” WalletHub said in its report .

“Plus, Atlanta has great diversity in terms of attractions. The city also ranks highly when it comes to the prevalence of amusement parks, shopping malls, ice cream parlors, and swimming pools, so there are many places to go for fun and refreshment For those who like to drink while on vacation, Atlanta also has one of the last “last call” times in the country, at 4 a.m.

Augusta, another Georgia metro, ranks 99th nationally for activities and 3rd for safety.
