7 dead, 3 injured after truck collides with autorickshaw in Damoh

Damoh (Madhya Pradesh) (India), September 24 (ANI): In a shocking incident, seven people died and three others were seriously injured when a truck collided with an auto-rickshaw in Damoh district of India’s Madhya Pradesh state on Tuesday evening, a police official said.

The accident occurred near Samanna village under the jurisdiction of Dehat police station (rural police station) of the district. The injured have been referred to Jabalpur for further treatment, he added.

“An accident occurred in Samanna in Damoh district in which a truck collided with an autorickshaw carrying 10 people. Seven of them died and three others were injured. After first aid, the injured were referred to Jabalpur Medical College for further treatment,” said Shrut Kirti Somvanshi, Superintendent of Police, Damoh.

“Currently, we are checking the collision marks of the truck and car at the accident site. Statements of the injured will be recorded once they regain consciousness. Then we can ascertain the faults and causes of the accident. However, the truck driver is in our custody and we are investigating the possibility that he was drunk,” SP said.

Further investigations into the matter are ongoing, he added.

Meanwhile, Collector Shudhir Kumar Kochar told ANI, “A recklessly driven truck collided head-on with an autorickshaw. Seven people died on the spot and three sustained serious injuries in the district. The injured were rushed to the hospital and after initial treatment they were referred to Jabalpur for further treatment.” Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has already announced financial assistance to the victims and the administration will forward the names and other necessary details of the victims, he added.

CM Yadav wrote on X, “I am saddened by the news that several people have lost their lives in a collision between a truck and a car on Damoh-Katni state highway in Damoh district. Instructions have been given to take strict action against those who were negligent in this horrific road accident. I pray to the Almighty to give a place to the departed souls at his lotus feet and give strength to the family members to bear this loss.” “On behalf of the state government, I have given instructions to provide financial assistance of Rs 200,000 each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. We are all with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” he further wrote. (ANI)
