Con artist Anna Delvey added to the cast of Dancing with the Stars, ankle bracelet and all

Convicted con artist Anna Sorokin, also known as Anna Delvey, will star in the upcoming 33rd season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” completing the con artist’s journey to stardom.

Delvey, who rose to notoriety when news of her elaborate crime spree involving spectacular fraud and deception broke, was portrayed by “Ozark” actress Julia Garner in a nine-part Netflix series in 2022, making her a household name.

The “Inventing Anna” muse will share the screen with “90210” star Tori Spelling, NBA champion Dwight Howard, “The Bachelorette” Jenn Tran and Olympic pommel horse favorite Stephen Nedoroscik, among others, Good Morning America confirmed Wednesday. Other “DWTS” competitors include Phaedra Parks of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and Delvey’s future dance partner Ezra Sosa.

“The media has seen a portrayal of her that, in my personal opinion, is not her,” Sosa told The Hollywood Reporter, adding that he can’t wait for audiences to meet “the real Anna Delvey.”

Delvey, who wore an ankle bracelet and a shimmering dress in preseason promotional photos, is currently under house arrest and is permitted to travel within the five boroughs of New York under the terms of her house arrest.

Delvey says the scrutiny she faced after she forged wire transfers, defrauded New York’s elite and bilked hotels and restaurants out of hundreds of thousands of dollars shouldn’t affect her performance too much.

“How would it affect my performance? It’s actually pretty easy,” Delvey told the Hollywood Reporter.

The con artist turned It Girl in real life, who is seeking immigration proceedings after a judge granted her temporary residency in the U.S. in 2022, confirmed that she had received “permission from ICE” to appear on the show.

The German citizen, who was accused of overstaying her visa in 2021, continues to fight to be allowed to stay in the States.

The series’ 33rd season will premiere on Tuesday, September 17, on ABC.
