The Palestinian political groups Hamas and Fatah end three days of intra-Palestinian reconciliation talks that took place in the Chinese capital Beijing.

The talks, which have been ongoing since Sunday with the support of the Chinese government, were attended by top teams from both groups, including Fatah deputy leader Mahmoud Alloul and Hamas politician Ismael Haniyeh.

“We in the Fatah movement are ready to resolve and remove all obstacles on the path to reconciliation, given the difficult conditions facing the Palestinian cause and the genocidal war in the Gaza Strip,” said senior Fatah leader Abdel Fattah Dawla.

Since 2007, intense disagreements between Fatah and Hamas have led to a political divide in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The goals of both parties are virtually the same – the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders – but they remain divided in their attitude towards Israel: Fatah advocates peaceful negotiations rather than armed resistance.
