Houstonians are using dumpsites to dispose of Hurricane Beryl debris. How to find one near you

HOUSTON – Trucks line Central Street waiting to unload their waste, mostly storm debris. The location is one of six depots in the neighborhood.

Mark Bandor said this was his second visit to unload storm debris since Hurricane Beryl made landfall.

“Why did you come here?” asked KPRC 2’s Rilwan Balogun.

“I didn’t want to wait,” Bandor said. “I want to get rid of it. It’s easier to get rid of it. If I had known it was open before, I would have done it before. It’s a lot easier now.”

The drop-offs are free for residents. Individuals must bring their identification (Texas driver’s license, Texas Department of Public Safety ID card, or Texas gun permit) and proof of residency (utility bill or rental agreement). Individuals must live within city limits to use them. Individuals are limited to four drop-offs per month, according to the city.

“We’re trying to get them in quickly,” said Kim Roberts, an employee at the southeast site. “We have to get them in and out because the line gets really long.”

The city will be picking up trash throughout the week as well as heavy tree debris and storm debris.

People can also use 3-1-1 to report any storm-related issues.
