Davenport man arrested after chase in Muscatine

A Davenport man was arrested following a chase that began in Muscatine County and ended within Muscatine city limits, a city news release said.

A Muscatine County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation on Taylor Avenue near the intersection with 155th Street in Muscatine County at 7:01 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. The motorcycle failed to stop and continued southbound on Taylor Avenue at 75 mph despite the 55 mph speed limit, according to court records. The deputy pursued the motorcycle onto Highway 61 and into the Muscatine city limits.


The driver of the motorcycle ignored the posted speed limit and all other traffic laws. The vehicle turned at Park Avenue and continued to the intersection with Second Street, where it turned west toward the Illinois Bridge. The driver attempted to slow down to make the turn toward the bridge, but was unable to slow down sufficiently. The motorcycle continued to travel around the road closure signs. The driver continued to the closure and drove through a parking lot in the 900 block of E. Second Street, where he lost control and crashed.

The motorcyclist fled the scene of the accident on foot and attempted to elude officers by running into the floodwaters of Mad Creek.

Michael Zahn, 30, of Davenport was arrested and charged with speeding in a 55 mph or less zone, speeding in a 55 mph or less zone (21 miles or more), fleeing and driving while suspended, court records show.
