NFL Reporter’s Astute Assessment of Josh Allen Reveals QB’s Importance to Bills

When it comes to comments about Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, rational positions are generally rare.

After initially being billed as “a parody of an NFL prospect” and suggesting that the arrival of receiver Stefon Diggs was responsible for Allen becoming a three-time MVP finalist, many detractors fail to recognize the Bills’ QB1 as one of the top three players at the position.

NFL Media Writer Eric Edholm was rational in his assessment of Allen, recognizing the importance of this dual-threat talent to the Bills’ success. The draft editor selected the most valuable players from all 32 teams and named Allen as Buffalo’s MVP in 2024.

Allen, 28, was the only AFC East quarterback selected. Receiver Tyreek Hill represented the Miami Dolphins while running backs Breece Hall and Rhamondre Stevenson were expected to prove most valuable to the New York Jets and New England Patriots, respectively.

From Predicting Every AFC Team’s MVP:

“On one hand, you could argue that Buffalo’s offseason purge robbed Allen of key weapons and weakened its support system, and that Buffalo must therefore win games differently in this post-Stefon Diggs era. But I’ll take the other side of the coin and argue that Allen and his game-changing ability have never been more important to the team. In short, the Bills will go as far as Allen can take them — and in the long run, he might even end up being a better quarterback than he was before. … .”

No NFL player has more touchdowns than Allen over the first six seasons of his career. He’ll have to operate without Diggs and Gabe Davis in 2024, but the last time that happened, John Brown passed the 1,000-yard mark.
