NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) — A 36-year-old man was killed in a shooting Sunday evening in North Charleston, according to the coroner.

Derrick Cobbs of North Charleston died of a gunshot wound at 10:44 p.m. Sunday at Trident Medical Center, Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.

In connection with the shooting, North Charleston detectives arrested Hakeem Wayne Johnson on Monday on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

North Charleston police said Johnson walked down Gable Street and took him into custody.

Officers responded to Dakota Street on Sunday after receiving a report that a man was not moving in the street, police said.

First responders found the man, identified as Cobbs, and took him to Trident, where he died.

Johnson is incarcerated at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
