School employee receives 8 years in prison for sexually abusing a student

A former hallway monitor at Tefft Middle School in Streamwood was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing a student.

Magdiel Perez, 27, of the 0-100 block of Lockman Circle in Elgin, must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he can be released on parole.

On April 11, he was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault.

Authorities alleged that Perez assaulted the victim, who was a student at Tefft, between May 1, 2022, and August 30, 2022. They said Perez drove the victim to his home several times.

When the victim reported the attacks, school officials placed Perez on leave and contacted the state Department of Children and Families, according to a news release from the Kane County District Attorney’s Office.

The prosecution demanded a prison sentence of 16 years.

Perez must register as a sex offender for life.
