Albert Gelb obituary – Atlanta, CT

ALBERT JEROME GELB He was the son of Florence (Stamler) Gelb Cramer Kupersmith and Morris Gelb. Al was born in Hartford in 1922 and was a member of the Weaver High School Class of 1940. Part of the Greatest Generation, Al enlisted in the Coast Guard after Pearl Harbor, trained in New London, and was shipped to the South Pacific aboard the USS Escatawpa. ; he served until December 1945. After a romance that spanned World War II, Al was married to Adeline Levy by Rabbi Morris Silverman at Emanuel Synagogue in 1946. In 1952, Addy and Al moved to Poughkeepsie, where they owned and operated Servisoft of Hudson Valley. . The Gelbs moved to Atlanta in 2009. His beloved “Sweet Adeline” predeceased him in 2011 after nearly 65 years of marriage. Al is survived by his older brother, Walter (Sara) Gelb of Santa Barbara, California; his youngest brother, Dr. Elliot Cramer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; daughters Cheryl (David) Eppsteiner of Marietta, Georgia; Debbie (Ari) Katz of Cupertino, California; and Nanci Gelb (Dr. Stuart Snyder) of Derwood, MD; five grandchildren: Michael, Danielle, Harris, Rosalind and Emily; as well as grandchildren Matthew and Elyse and their families; several beloved nephews, nieces and cousins; and a number of dear and close friends in Florida, Poughkeepsie and Hartford. He was predeceased by siblings Zelda Ungar, Sylvia Zehala, Israel Cramer and Edward Cramer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 24 at 10 a.m. at Temple Beth-El, 118 S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, with burial to follow in Temple Beth-El Cemetery. Sign the online guestbook at www.edressler.com. The family will have shivah at Cheryl’s house.
