Crime Stoppers Atlanta says more metro departments need to join them – 95.5 WSB

APD Sgt. Carlos Maldonado says many cases may not be solved without Crime Stoppers’ tips.

He says he was investigating the identity of the man who shot two people near a nightclub in January 2022, but it was a tip he got after releasing surveillance video with Crime Stoppers who helped solve the case.

“Without this information and guiding me along the path I used to identify the suspect, I would not have been able to solve this crime,” he said.

Because he knows the power of Crime Stoppers, Sgt. Maldonado shared the story of this investigation with officers and deputies from other metro Atlanta departments who gathered at APD headquarters.

“As you know, criminals don’t know borders, so we thought it was important to have the metro Atlanta area involved in this,” Tyus said. “Ultimately, it’s going to take every community in this metropolitan area to do their part to combat the crime we’re seeing.”

Greater Atlanta Crime Stoppers Director Sgt. Travis Williams says all tips received remain anonymous. Tipsters will not have to testify in court or identify themselves.

“We want everything to be discreet. We want to let the community know that we are here for them, and that’s the most important thing,” he said.
