JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna arrested for sexual assault

Hassan, (Karnataka), June 23. In another shock to former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s family, Karnataka Police arrested JD(S) MLC and Gowda’s grandson Suraj Revanna in connection with a sexual assault case.

Suraj Revanna is the brother of arrested former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, the main accused in the sex video case.

Suraj Revanna was arrested by the Holenarasipura Rural police in Hassan district in the early hours of Sunday.

Suraj Revanna appeared before the police on Saturday evening after a complaint was filed against him.

The Karnataka police had filed an FIR against Suraj Revanna on Saturday evening and summoned him to the police station for questioning. The case was filed in connection with a complaint of sexual assault filed by a JD(S) worker, police said.

The police had filed an FIR against Suraj Revanna under sections 377 (unnatural sexual intercourse), 342 (release) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim in this case had sent his complaint to both the DGP’s office and the Hassan Police Commissioner.

After receiving a copy of the complaint, the police referred the case to the Holenarasipura Rural police station.

The police had contacted the victim in connection with the alleged case of sexual assault and recorded his statement.

The police also took the victim for a medical examination.

Reacting to this development, Suraj Revanna said it was a political conspiracy against him.

“Baseless allegations have been made against me and I strongly deny these allegations. The matter is being legally resolved and an FIR has also been filed,” he said.

The victim claimed to have met Suraj Revanna at an event he organized. Suraj Revanna was impressed by his organizational skills and allegedly gave him his mobile number. He started sending him friendly messages with love symbols.

The man was called to Suraj Revanna’s farmhouse where he was allegedly sexually abused.

Prajwal Revanna, the elder brother of Suraj Revanna and former JD(S) MP, was arrested in connection with the sex video scandal.

His father, JD(S) MLA, HD Revanna, was arrested in a kidnapping case related to the sex video scandal and is out on bail.

His mother, Bhavani Revanna, is under investigation in a kidnapping case and a court recently granted her conditional release.

The Karnataka Police have also filed a case of extortion against two people after Suraj Revanna was sexually assaulted.

Suraj Revanna’s assistant Shivakumar filed a complaint against the victim and his relatives at the Holenarasipura police station.

Shivakumar said in the complaint that false allegations were made against Suraj Revanna to extort money.

The complaint alleged that the accused had threatened Suraj Revanna that he would file a sexual assault complaint against him if he did not pay Rs 50 million.

The police have registered a case under sections 384 (extortion) and 584 (criminal intimidation) of the International Penal Code (IPC).
