HOUSTON CO, Ala. (WDHN) — Let’s go out to eat, but what about cooking? This week, WDHN reports the latest round of inspections, but this time, a particular restaurant you may have eaten at will need to pass a follow-up inspection to ensure it retains its right to serve.

BTJ Wings at 3182 Montgomery Highway failed to achieve a passing score on their 06/11/2024 inspection by just 2 points, meaning they will have to pass a follow-up inspection within 60 days.

Their noted report lists proper hand washing and glove use, storage of foods that could lead to contamination, chicken found at 126 degrees, rice at 147 degrees and noodles at 57 degrees, as well as flaking paint, among other issues that led to the score. .

The Health Department’s report noted at the restaurant that employees were eating or drinking in inappropriate areas, food containers were being sanitized or kept at the correct temperature and ice warehouses were not being properly cleaned.

Employees say uncleaned ice machines and basic maintenance of bathrooms where floor tiles were broken also led to this low score. WDHN contacted management; we have not yet heard back from them but will update our article if they provide additional information.

WDHN also has the latest restaurant inspection reports for 40 other Houston County restaurants and food establishments. All were inspected between June 10 and 14.

The state scores them on a 100-point scale, with points deducted for each violation. The overall score determines the reinspection schedule and the use of enforcement measures.

85-100 Satisfactory compliance, schedule of routine inspections
70-84 Follow-up inspection required within 60 days
60-69 Follow-up and re-inspection are required within 48 hours
Below 60 Closed immediately
