Silver Alert activated for 86-year-old driving away from Payson Temple

A Silver Alert was issued after an 86-year-old Salem man drove away from the Payson Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

According to the alert issued by the Utah Department of Public Safety at 3:22 p.m. Saturday, Daniel Douglas Chase, Jr., was observed leaving the temple at 1:30 p.m. in a blue 2020 Kia Sportage with Utah license plate 89AB3.

“It is not known where he is going,” the warning says. “He becomes forgetful.”

The warning cited a previous case in which Chase had managed to travel a distance of over 90 miles.

“Last year he made it to Fillmore,” DPS said.

Chase is described as a white male with blue eyes, 5’6″ tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt and tie.

A photo was not immediately provided.

Anyone with information on Chase’s whereabouts is asked to contact Salem Police at 801-798-5600 or 911.
