Suspect arrested in Charlotte murder case in Texas

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – An arrest has been made in connection with a murder in east Charlotte.

Jose Francisco Ulloa-Martinez, 42, was arrested in Houston on June 3 in connection with the May 26 shooting death of 23-year-old Kevin Merlos-Saravia.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to Winged Elm Court around 5 a.m. They found Merlos-Saravia shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

To help the family with their final expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was launched.

Ulloa-Martinez’s arrest was coordinated by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, multiple law enforcement agencies from South Carolina and Texas, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He is awaiting extradition to Mecklenburg County to face charges of first-degree murder.
