Police: Driver killed, passenger injured after shooting at intersection

SUMTER, SC (WOLO)– Sumter Police say a driver is dead and a passenger is injured following a shooting this morning at the intersection of Green Swamp Road and South Guignard Drive.

Officers were alerted to a shooting at the intersection around 7:30 a.m. and found a 32-year-old driver and a 28-year-old passenger nearby.

Initial investigations indicate that the victims’ car was stopped at the traffic light on Green Swamp Road when a white sedan drove up next to it and fired shots.

According to police, the white vehicle then sped away on South Guignard Drive.

The driver, whose name would later be released by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
