Woman found dead in creek in DeWitt

DEWITT, NY (WSYR-TV) — On Sunday morning, May 19, a woman was found dead in a creek in DeWitt in the area of ​​Kirkville Road by DeWitt Police.

Police first responded to a man who had possibly overdosed at 6953 Kirkville Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

After police arrived, the man was taken to a local hospital, but police also learned that a woman had been with the man before police arrived.

DeWitt police searched for the woman in the creek area behind the home and at other addresses where she was known to be, but were unable to find her.

At around 9:15 a.m., the woman’s phone was found by the stream near the house. Then, around 9:50 a.m., the woman was found dead in the creek about 600 feet upstream of the home.

The woman was identified by DeWitt police as 61-year-old Dorthy Brownell.
