Teenager killed in shooting at Joppatowne High School, suspect in custody

A teenager was killed and a suspect is in custody following a shooting at Joppatowne High School in Harford County, Maryland on Friday afternoon.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said the security officer and the school principal responded to a fight in the school’s downstairs restroom.

Gahler said a gun was fired and hit the victim.

The suspect, a 16-year-old, fled the toilet and the school, but was later taken into police custody.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was flown by helicopter to a nearby trauma center and has been presumed dead since then.

Gahler says the teen will face charges in connection with this incident and the investigation is ongoing.

Harford County Public Schools has sent an email to all Joppatowne High School families and community.

This is important news for our Joppatowne High School community. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office was called to the school today regarding an isolated incident on campus. A fight occurred on campus between known parties. A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident. The HCSO and HCPS are working together to get this information to you.
