Premiere held for film involving Tom Fontana and Buffalo State students

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dozens of Buffalo State University students are seeing the fruits of their hard work on the big screen for the first time.

Hundreds of people attended the premiere of “The Wrong Road” at the North Park Theater in North Buffalo on Sunday.

It’s a 30-minute film that Buffalo State film and television students have been working on for months now, with Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Tom Fontana, also a Buffalo State graduate.

Students said working on the production gave them valuable real-world experience.

“I learned a lot about how these big films work, for example in terms of working with the director, the screenwriter and other people,” Faye Harris said. “I’ve done some post-production stuff before, but this was a lot more serious.”

“The Wrong Road” follows a young man who gets lost while driving across the state and meets two strangers who know every detail of his life.

The project included actress Kathryn Erbe, who played Detective Alexandra Eames in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” and Lee Tergesen, who played Tobias Beecher in Fontana’s “Oz” series.

“The Wrong Road” tells the story of a young man who gets lost while driving across the state and meets two strangers who know every detail of his life.

Fontana — who graduated from Buffalo State University in 1973 and created such shows as “Borgia,” “Oz” and “Homicide: Life on the Street” — worked with an arts program production team Buffalo State television and film companies.
