Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens joins Democratic mayors for conference call with President Joe Biden

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — As the suddenly embattled 46th president of the United States struggles to maintain his party’s support for his re-election bid, Joe Biden held a conference call Tuesday night with Democratic Party mayors, including Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

CNN reported that the meeting with the Democratic Mayors Association took place via Zoom.

Dickens has been a consistent supporter of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, both of whom visited Atlanta and Georgia numerous times during this recent election cycle.

On Monday, Biden sent a letter to congressional Democrats calling on their party to “end the drama” surrounding his reelection campaign and support him in defeating presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in November.

Biden’s efforts to shore up a deeply anxious Democratic Party continue as party leaders decide whether to revive Biden’s reelection campaign or replace him with another candidate in the Oval Office.

Since his debate with Trump two weeks ago in Atlanta, Biden has continued to face intense pressure to revitalize his campaign. But his team nonetheless announced after the debate that it had raised $264 million in the second quarter and had $240 million on hand.

The re-election campaign for Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris said the $124 million raised in June was “the best month of the campaign cycle.”

“This historic fundraising effort continues to be fueled by a strong and growing grassroots campaign, with more than half of the total amount raised in the second quarter coming from grassroots donors – a clear indication of the strong enthusiasm behind the Biden-Harris ticket,” the campaign said. “This second quarter fundraising represents $75 million more than the Biden-Harris team raised in the first quarter of 2024.”

“The team also reports $240 million in cash on hand, up from $212 million last month,” he said. “Over the past three months, the Biden-Harris team has grown its historic war chest while dramatically expanding its footprint and operations at headquarters and in key states – the resources needed to win a close election.”

First lady Jill Biden was in Georgia on Monday for a campaign stop.
