1 person killed in apartment fire in DeKalb County

DECATUR, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a deadly apartment fire overnight in DeKalb County.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Snapwoods Apartments on Snapfinger Woods Drive in Decatur. The DeKalb Fire Department said emergency crews rescued one person from a burning apartment. That man later died at the hospital.

Investigators believe the fire probably broke out in a bedroom.

DeKalb Fire Department officials said they were able to contain the fire to the man’s residence, but that four families were affected by the fire and will be homeless due to smoke and water damage.
