Suspect arrested, machine gun and drugs seized in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) — A Springfield man was arrested after police observed a drug deal in the area of ​​Salem and Spring streets Thursday morning.

The suspected drug dealer, 29-year-old Jose Sandoval-Baez, was arrested when police tracked him down as he tried to flee.

In his backpack, they allegedly found a loaded illegal firearm with a Glock switch that turns a weapon into a fully automatic machine gun. Officers also seized a quantity of crack cocaine, 40 bags of heroin and nearly $1,100 in cash.

Sandoval-Baez, who has already been convicted twice for heroin trafficking, now faces multiple weapons and drug charges stemming from this incident.
