Today is Make Music Day! It’s a day each year dedicated to celebrating – and performing – music, and it takes place in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries around the world.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Houston has officially been part of it. But it’s actually a kind of global jam session that anyone can join anywhere. You can sing, take out a kazoo, bang a drum, or, as we’re about to hear, strum a ukulele.

In the audio above, Alli Villines joins Houston Matters in the studio. Villines is a professional musician in Houston who is officially participating in Make Music Day and she performs her original songs “Spider Plant” and “Rapunzel.” Also joining the event is Tracy DeJarnett, music advisory board secretary for the Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs.
