TIFT COUNTY, Ga. — Five people were killed Tuesday in a crash on Interstate 75 North in central Georgia, according to Georgia State Patrol troopers.

11Alive’s NBC affiliate WALB reported that five people died, including a 22-year-old from Atlanta, following the wreck in Tift County just after 6:30 p.m. near mile marker 69.

GSP said the crash investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling in the center lane of I-75 when the driver failed to maintain the lane and crashed into the rear of a semi-trailer parked on the right shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the car and three passengers inside were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth passenger was rushed to a local hospital where they ultimately died, WALB reported.

The only identified passenger is Serigne Mbodji, 22, of Atlanta. The others are being identified, and next of kin have not been notified, according to WALB.
