2 Houston Texans who could lose their starting jobs to rookies in 2024

Many veterans on the Houston Texans are coming off good to great seasons, including at positions where they drafted rookies high in the draft. So what happens to them? Are their jobs secure at least this season? Or will they have to fight for a starting job or a roster spot this summer? In this article, we will look at two players who are at risk of losing their spots to rookies.

The Texans found production in unexpected places last year, primarily on their defense. And now, in 2024, they’re hoping the better picks they made will take over and produce at those positions. After letting a few high-profile veterans enter free agency, they needed to fill those roles throughout the draft, and they did a very good job. However, the remaining veterans are not going to die without a fight. Some will lose their jobs this season to rookies, and others will fight for another year.

Two positions they drafted rookies to are safety and cornerback. Both positions were considered current or future needs, and we got to see Kamari Lassiter and Calen Bullock play a good number of reps early on. Given that some veterans at their position played well last season, will they have an easy path to a starting role? Let’s take a look at these positions and see if they can force a veteran off his spot on this roster come September.
