Water problems continue in Atlanta for the third day

Water problems continue in Atlanta for the third day

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Water flowed down several Atlanta streets for the third day in a row.

After a weekend out of town, Andrew Hagan and Zenia Nava discovered the water wasn’t working in their Midtown apartment.

“We had tried to flush the toilet and it didn’t work,” Hagan said. “The sinks are dripping until they are empty and we assume the shower won’t work.”

While walking through their neighborhood, the couple was forced to tiptoe across a pond filled with rushing water.

This was from a major water main break at the intersection of 11th Street and West Peachtree Street NW, near the Eleventh Street Pub.

“It’s a bit off-putting, I didn’t expect it when I arrived today. It’s no fun to walk on.

Outside State Farm Arena, Megan Reid was returning from Birmingham after Friday’s Megan Thee Stallion concert was canceled.

“I was really frustrated because I quit work and rented a car,” she said.

Reid had driven more than two hours during rush hour Friday afternoon, only to discover that the concert had been postponed until Sunday due to widespread water problems in Atlanta.

Reid was particularly upset that State Farm Arena made the announcement only two hours before the show started.

“I just feel like they waited as long as they could,” she said. “People who came from elsewhere weren’t really taken into consideration.”

While the water was running at State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, the citywide boil water advisory remained in effect.

This meant limited food and drink options, as concession stands were unable to sell sodas from vending machines.

Both locations have also added numerous hand sanitizer stations.

Dirk Davis attended the Atlanta United match.

“I knew they were going to have hand sanitizer, food and vending machines,” he said. “I probably don’t want to drink a lot of water or go to the bathroom.”

Looking back on that weekend, Davis says these widespread water problems weren’t a good idea for Atlanta’s local leaders.

“It’s really strange to see such a big city closed because of a water main,” he concluded. “It leaves a little black eye on the city.”

The boil water advisory for residents near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and James P. Brawley Drive may be lifted Monday, according to the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management.

That would only be the case if Atlanta gets the green light from the Georgia Division of Environmental Protection.
