Houston Humane Society helps more than 100 pet owners during disaster relief event

HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Houston Humane Society hosted a drive-thru flood rescue service for families with pets who lost everything in the flood. The competition was held at Santa Fe Middle School in Cleveland.

During the event, pet owners were able to get free cat litter, dog and cat food. This was all in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, Cleveland ISD and Santa Fe Middle School. The Houston Humane Society says more than 100 people were able to get free supplies yesterday. However, they are still in desperate need of donations as demand for pet assistance increases.

Assistant Director of Marketing Macey Staes says future donations will help them continue providing resources to families in need. “We’re fortunate that we’re not located in areas that have experienced major flooding, we’ve just had a bit of bad weather. But you know, we prepared and we worked with our pet resources team to gather as many resources as possible. So what this means for HHS is that we are in recovery mode. We want to help as many pets as possible stay with their families during this time of disaster,” Staes said.
