ATLANTA — As Memorial Day weekend travel gets underway, the Transportation Security Administration expects new daily travel records at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The TSA Southeast Region says its agents screened more than 107,000 passengers between midnight and 10 p.m. Thursday.

“We have a new single-day screening record @ATLairport! As of 10 p.m., we have screened more than 107,000 passengers! And we’re still going… we’ll have a total in the morning,” a rep posted on X.

The new record won’t hold for long, with the TSA predicting Friday’s numbers will surpass Thursday’s.

“TSA predicts that Friday, May 24 will be the busiest travel day of the Memorial Day long weekend, with nearly three million passengers expected. From May 23 to 29, the agency plans to screen more than 18 million passengers and crew, representing an increase in checkpoint volume of approximately 6.4% compared to the same period in 2023. , the agency said.

The federal agency urged travelers to arrive early to be on time before considering parking or returning a rental car. They also urged passengers to give themselves at least two hours before their flight.
