Metro Atlanta nonprofit makes mortgage payments for families affected by cancer – WSB-TV Channel 2

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County nonprofit that provides mortgage payments to families affected by cancer is nearing a milestone.

Nick Womack says it’s good to forget your worries, even if it’s just for a moment.

“One less thing. Give me one less thing. This is what we pray for regularly,” Womack said. Berndt Petersen from Channel 2.

“Thank you for praying for me! I love you,” Nick Womack’s son Wells recently told family and friends in a recorded message.

The 5-year-old from DeKalb County was diagnosed with leukemia a few months ago. His house is his favorite place.

“I think home is one of the most important things in our lives,” said Katie Walton of Join the Flock.

Channel 2 Action News told you about it five years ago, shortly after Join the Flock was created by Katie’s cousin, Jennifer Edens Lazo.

“It was six months before he died. She was very ill. She realized that her biggest worry each month was their biggest bill. The mortgage payment,” Walton said.

The Womacks are among nearly 100 families Join the Flock has helped. This month’s mortgage payment has been paid in full, and that’s one less thing to worry about.

“It creates a positive ripple effect throughout the family.” One less thing. That’s what Join the Flock does,” said Nick Womack.
