According to West Melbourne Lt. Graig Erenstoft, officers responded to the area of ​​US 192 and Meadowlane Avenue for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two people, a man and a woman, lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries, and both victims were transported to a local hospital.

Lieutenant Erenstoft said the male victim, 45-year-old Bernard Aloyious Letzinger from West Melbourne, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital. The condition of the female victim, whose identity has not been released by authorities, is critical but stable.

“The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement. This accident is currently under investigation as traffic investigators work to determine the cause of the accident,” said Lt. Erenstoft.
